About
Virgile Gouala, Notion consultant and Notion Ambassador, based near Paris.
Frontend developer, then Engineering Manager at Welcome to the Jungle. Now independent Notion consultant. 10 years in tech, an ADHD brain, and one obsession: building systems that bring relief.
Based near Paris. Available remotely across France and Europe.

In a few words
Why Notion, and why me?
People often ask why I moved from Engineering Manager at successful scale-ups to Notion Consultant. The answer is simple: I love building systems that work, but I love even more seeing people exhale with relief when the chaos disappears.
That instinct comes from ten years managing teams in environments where there was no room for error. I don't sell. I listen, I analyse, I tell you honestly what I think the next step should be. If that's not with me, I'll say that too.
ADHD & systems
An ADHD brain at the service of your systems.
I'm diagnosed ADHD. Not self-diagnosed after a TikTok video, not "a bit ADHD" because I zone out in meetings. Diagnosed, with the paperwork and everything.
What that changes, concretely: my attention doesn't distribute evenly. Some topics slide by without leaving a trace. Others pull everything in.
When I go inside a system, an organisation, a process, a Notion workspace, I don't skim. I see the connections, the dependencies, the inconsistencies, the possible optimisations. I see why something is going to break before it breaks.
Notion works exactly like that: every database linked to the others, every piece of information in its place, nothing floating. It is no accident that the systems I build hold together. They are designed with the same logic my brain uses to process the world.
Philosophy
Transparent, from start to finish.
I don't believe in six-month projects where a consultant delivers an opaque black box then disappears.
Autonomy first
I build WITH you, not FOR you. My goal: for you to operate independently as fast as possible. No dependency. No black box. Full documentation. Training built in.
Functional minimalism
Decoration is pointless if nobody uses the tool. I prioritise clarity and adoption over pure aesthetics. Every element has a reason to exist. If it doesn't serve a purpose, it goes.
Total transparency
No polished consultant persona. Just honesty. What might look like chaos to some is a perfectly logical architecture to me. I share that vision without a filter.
Cross-disciplinary skills
What you get when working with me
People who work with me often say that what makes my systems hold is the listening. I read between the lines. I structure the chaos while keeping the human at the centre. See completed projects →

Testimonials
Their words, not mine.
"What makes the difference: his hands-on approach, his understanding of the job, and his radical transparency (he refused to sell me Notion Mail because it wasn't ready). Result: I save 3 hours a week, I'm self-sufficient, and my client portal has become so professional it reinforces my credibility. 10/10 satisfaction."
"I needed to migrate a complex Excel project to Notion, rethinking the data model to match the tool's logic. In 1.5h, Virgile helped me clarify the structure and design an adapted prototype. Beyond his Notion mastery, I really appreciated his approach — both pedagogical and pragmatic."
"I had given up on Notion because I couldn't use it or customise it for my needs. Virgile unquestionably masters this tool and explains it brilliantly with a lot of pragmatism. He finally allowed me to use the different Notion features and see the potential of the tool. Mission accomplished: Notion has since become a daily tool."
"I really enjoyed the training led by Virgile. Even though I thought I already had a good grasp of Notion, I discovered many tips and concrete examples that significantly improved my efficiency at work. Virgile is very pedagogical and has an ability to share his knowledge with good humour."
"The Notion training led by Virgile was highly instructive and perfectly suited to beginners like me. Thanks to his clear explanations and practical exercises, I was able to set up a tracking board for my video editing projects, which helps me better manage my deadlines and client requests."
"Virgile creates an inclusive environment where all questions are welcome, and explains things clearly and concretely. The advanced training let me deepen my knowledge and discover important subtleties of Notion that I still use today."
"A Notion user for 3 years, this training allowed me to discover many use cases I would never have imagined alone. Between structured advice and practical tips, I really learned to make the most of the tool: a genuine daily time saver. Virgile is pedagogical, patient, and clear."
"Virgile listens to his client and is very proactive. He understood my need very quickly and was highly autonomous. Communication is smooth and easy. I strongly recommend Virgile for his professionalism and efficiency."

My career
From code to people management
Notion Ambassador · Notion Setup Sessions partner. Audits, implementations, training and adoption support for freelancers and teams of 15 to 50 people. In France and remotely.
I left the comfort of a 4-day week at WTTJ to go independent. As a developer and manager, I was responding to product needs that weren't mine. I was creating solutions, sometimes chaos. I wanted to do the opposite: tidy up other people's chaos. Terrifying. Stimulating. Aligned.
I became a manager because I was a chronic dissatisfier. My manager at the time could see I wanted more weight in decisions.
I discovered I loved listening to people, reading between the lines, creating psychologically safe environments, helping people grow (junior → senior), and delivering difficult messages with empathy.
Hands-off management of cross-functional teams of 4 to 8 people. Training 50+ people in Notion. Structuring 1:1s, roadmaps, onboarding for 300+ people. Mental health first aider (2 days). Recruiting at all levels.
Started as a frontend developer, obsessed with SEO and accessibility. Every millisecond counted, every structure had to be logical.
Development and optimisation of hundreds of multilingual sites. Technical SEO expertise, web performance, Core Web Vitals. Result: Web Core Vitals from 24 to 94/100 across millions of pages in 6 months.

Elsewhere
Outside of databases...
When I'm not automating processes or training teams, you'll find me:
Dad and husband
I organised our 200-person wedding entirely in Notion, without a wedding planner. We even chose our child's name using a veto-based voting system built in Notion. Yes, really.
Pop-culture fan
Give me a manga, a comic book, or a box of Lego, and I'm happy. I love great TV (The Office, Bojack, Archer). My long-term dream: open a hybrid bookshop/record store, because deep down I love structuring things, but I also love sharing what I'm passionate about.
FAQ
Questions I get asked often
The most common questions about how I work, my clients, my background, and what sets me apart from another Notion consultant.
A question that's not here? Write to me — I usually reply within 24h.
Two main profiles. Freelancers and solopreneurs who want to run their business from one place, without drowning in tools. And companies of 15 to 50 people who need coordination and documentation without the overhead of an ERP. In both cases, I work with people who genuinely want to change how they work, not just get a nice-looking workspace.
Every engagement starts with a serious scoping session: understanding your real activity, your habits, what's stuck. Then I build with you, not for you: you're in the loop at every step. I document everything, train as I go, and deliver a system you can evolve on your own the day after the engagement ends.
Depends on the offer. An Unblock session produces an immediate result — you leave with a concrete answer on the day. An Audit takes 5 to 7 days and gives you a clear picture of what's blocking. A full build (Build) takes 3 to 4 weeks, but the first deliverables are visible after the first week. Retainers are evaluated over 2 to 3 months.
Three things. My technical background first: I'm a former developer and Engineering Manager — I understand real team constraints, not just the tool. My pedagogy next: every engagement includes built-in training, not a delivery and goodbye. And my neurodivergent approach: my ADHD brain works in systems. What I build is logical, not decorative.
